Freshman Students Coordinating Office

Welcome to the Freshman Students Coordination Office! Established in 2019 as part of a nationwide higher education reform, our office oversees the delivery of foundational common courses for all first-year students. These courses are designed to prepare students academically and help them transition smoothly into their respective colleges and departments.

Based on the new roadmap, Woldia University in 2019 enrolled 4,200 students who passed the national university entrance exam after completing grade 12. These students were admitted to fields in both the social and natural sciences, beginning their studies under the guidance of the Freshman Dean’s Office. In that time, the Office was led by one dean, two academic coordinators and two assistant registrars.

The office continues to dedicate itself to nurturing students who can drive impactful national transformations, equipped with competitive skills, innovative ideas, and scientific knowledge.  We are committed to supporting students in their freshman year, fostering a strong academic foundation for their future success.

As per the new civil service structure, the office was changed to Freshman Coordinating Office since 2024. The office typically plays a crucial role in supporting first-year students during their transition to university life.

• Academic Support and Course Registration Assistance: Guide freshmen through the process of course selection and registration, ensuring compliance with academic requirements.
• Advising and Counseling: Provide academic advising to help students understand program requirements, policies, and expectations.
• Monitoring Academic Progress: Track the academic performance of freshmen and intervene if students face challenges, offering support and solutions.
• Orientation and Transition: Organize and facilitate orientation sessions to familiarize new students with campus facilities, academic policies, and available resources.
• Mentorship Coordination: Assign mentors or peer guides to freshmen to ease their adjustment to university life.
• Communication Hub: Serve as the main point of contact for freshmen to address questions or concerns about university processes.
• Student Records Management: Maintain accurate records of freshman enrollment, attendance, and academic status.
• Coordination with Departments: Liaise with academic departments to ensure freshmen are placed in appropriate courses and learning environments.
• Scheduling: Manage schedules for freshman classes, including organizing remedial or additional support classes as needed.
• Resource Allocation: Ensure freshmen have access to essential resources, such as textbooks, online learning platforms, and study materials.
• Feedback Mechanisms: Collect feedback from students to assess their needs and improve services.
• Data Analysis: Use data from freshmen performance and feedback to identify areas for improvement and implement necessary changes.
