About the Office

The Student Services Dean provides student support in providing multipurpose amenities. Our goal is to provide comprehensive services that will assist the students in achieving a successful and rewarding education experience in our university and at national wise. The Student Services Dean Office provides student support in the following areas:

  • Dining Services
  • Dormitory Services
  • Health Services/clinic
  • Guidance and Counseling
  • Sport, Recreation and Co-curricular activities

The vision of the office is striving to emerge as one of the leading offices in our university and other equivalent universities in the country by 2030.

Mission

The mission of the office is providing quality dormitory, dinning, health, consultancy and recreational services for students throughout their stay in the University.

Under the Office

The student service dean office is organized with dean of student service and vice dean for students character building. Under these offices there are different wings which are working collaboratively as a team to provide dinning services, dormitory services, health services, guidance and counseling, and sport, recreation and co-curricular activities.

Dinning Services

Students’ dinning service team serves students in Ethiopian standard. The team’s concern is to make every dining experience nutritious one. The team gives attention to plan menus that offer variety every day of the week.

Dormitory Services

The quality of students’ living learning environment plays an important part in our university competence. Our dormitories are a place where students live in a community that values friendship and academic success. In planning and operating our dormitories, the office wants to meet students’ needs in every way possible.

Health Services/Clinic

Being in good health is one of the basic prerequisite for good academic performance.  Thus, we strive to provide the best care possible through our professionals in a manner that is welcoming and respectful of everyone. The Student Clinic offers, Health Promotion /Disease Prevention & Routine health care provision.

WlDU is placed at the capital of North Wollo Zone. Because of this location advantage the university is using Woldia Comprehensive Specialized Hospital and Red Cross Drug Store in the town to get all services to the students apart from our clinic.

Guidance and Counseling

University students are adolescents and young adults who face tremendous pressure to adjust to the new environment. Students who join the University face different challenges. Adapting to the social and the physical environment constitutes one of the main challenges. Adjustment to new peer groups, academic atmosphere, loose family contact, and financial problems are some of the specific challenges. These challenges possibly lead students to personal crisis, mainly emotional disturbance, stress, and other social crisis. These mainly lead to academic failure, drug addiction, social isolation, suicidal attempts and the like. In relation to these problems, the need for student orientation, guidance and counseling services is crucial. In addition to these services, the University has decided to have an office for delivering guidance and counseling services.

Sport, recreation and co-curricular activities

The physical and the Psychological well- being of students are important for their academic success. To ensure that the office arrange sports and recreational activities for students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop guidelines and working procedures on student affairs policies and procedures including: Guidance & Counseling, Conflict & Disciplinary Case Management, Sport & Club Management and Recreation & Facility Management services;
  • Plan, organize, coordinate and control all activities pertinent to non-academic student services such as catering, dormitory, recreation and health
  • Ensure that student affairs policies and work procedures are known and complied with by individuals as well as collective bodies as appropriate;
  • Develop effective and efficient student affairs provision methods and ensure their proper implementation;
  • Develop automated comprehensive student affairs information system and ensure its proper utilization;
  • Advise all bodies concerned on the efficient and effective handling of student service tasks;
  • Ensure that student affairs management related decisions given at each level under the University are consistent with pertinent policies and regulations of the University;
  • Introduce student affairs management and administration related strategies and operational plans and follow up on their implementation on approval;
  • Guide University higher officials on student affairs related matters;
  • Provide the necessary support to college level student services work units;
  • Advise students on non-academic matters and provide Guidance & Counseling, Conflict & Disciplinary Case Management, Sports & Club Management and Recreation and Facility Management services as required;
  • Work in cooperation with work units concerned with the welfare of students;
  • Ensure that goods and services needed for the facilitation and execution of student affairs are secured in time and within budget and recommend payments;
  • Implement all disciplinary decisions made by the academic units which are entitled to look into student disciplinary cases;
  • Give the necessary support to strengthen the Student Union;
  • Perform other related duties assigned by University Top management.
