About The Department LAWW

Background

Department of Law is the only department within School of Law. Due to the nature of legal education, other departments are not common in Law Schools. Department of Law is launched after the establishment of School of Law and started the journey by teaching 40 students.

Goals of The Department

The of the department is  aimed at producing competent, entrepreneur and responsible legal professionals. Specifically: it

  • Incubates students, who serve society with the highest heed to ethical values, strive to defend rights and liberties and uphold the fundamentals of rule of law and justice;
  • Produces students with basic knowledge of major national legislation and procedures, along with the skills of legal interpretation required to solve legal problems;
  • enhances the critical thinking abilities of students so that they can understand and implement laws as judges, practicing lawyers, prosecutors, public defenders or academicians;
  • produces professionals who can deliver effective legal advice and consultancy to public institutions, intergovernmental organizations, non-governmental organizations, the private sector or individuals;
  • educate individuals who will be able to speak to and advise clients with professionalism, understanding and responsibility;
  • prepares competent lawyers who undertake legal research and publish their work, and hence reinforce Ethiopian legal jurisprudence.

Vision

The department of Law of  School of Law of Woldia University aspires, in 2030,  to be one of the ten best department in the University where quality legal education is given.

Mission

The department aims at  training  versatile, critical and legally  conscious learners, empowering students to win national and international moot court competition and equipping the students so that they can succeed in the national exit exams.
