The endeavors to launch School of Law of the university were begun since 2016 G.C. The needs assessment was completed in 2017 G.C. The law lecturers who took the initiative to conduct the needs assessment were employed in school of land administration. The final approval of the launching of the school was given by the University senate in 2020 G.C. The school was then officially established in that same year , started to admit and teach students since 2022.
The school is committed to contribute its own share in conducting problem solving research, engage in community service activities the most important of which is Free legal aid service, provide quality legal education to students both in the regular and weekend program with the instrumentality of its young and energetic law teachers.
The school of Law of Woldia University aspires, in 2030, to be one of the ten best law schools in Ethiopia where quality legal education is given, problem solving researches are conducted and priceless community service activities are provided.
The School aims at training in law, versatile, critical and legally conscious learners, conduct, develop and disseminate knowledge through scholarly researches, and provide high quality legal consultancy and legal aid services to the community and thereby support the country’s national priority areas.
The School Conducts Research And Provides Community Service Mainly In North Wollo And Waghemira Zones
The School is Committed to Conduct Research in IDP Related Issues, Land Related Issue, Prisoners Treatment and Their Human Rights, Illegal Human Trafficking, Women And Disability Rights, Judicial Satisfaction of The Population Of North Wollo And Waghemira Zones, and many other areas.
the school provides free legal aid service to the section of the community who have no money to pay to attorneys. It also provides legal education to the community via Woldia University’s Community radio FM 89.2 which is heard nearly within 150 KMs radius. It also works on awareness creation activities on the legal rights of IDPs by opening mobile legal aid centers in areas where IDPs are residing such as in Jara IDPs’ camp.
Woldia University School of Law works in collaboration and in cooperation with Ethiopian Law Schools’ Association, Consortium of Ethiopian Law schools, Federal justice and law institute, Federal supreme court , North Wollo Zone high court and all other woreda courts in the Vicinity.
