The Institutional Review Board (IRB) at Woldia University (WDU-IRB) was established in 2022 to review and oversee research involving human, animal and environmental subjects, aiming to ensure ethical standards. The IRB uses standard operating procedure (SOP) manuals that provide a framework to standardize processes, ensuring that all research activities comply with both national and international ethical guidelines, such as WHO’s operational guidelines and Good Clinical Practice (GCP). As the guiding Principles; IRB of Woldia University operates independently, making impartial decisions to protect rights, safety, and welfare of human and animals. It`s activities align with the Declaration of Helsinki, Council for International Organization Medical Sciences (CIOMS) guidelines, and the Belmont Report.
We acknowledge the diversity of laws, cultures, and practices governing research globally and locally, strive to understand the specific conditions of research sites, and seek input from ethics committees and researchers on the impact of approved studies. Note that WDU-IRB members to stay updated on advancements in technology, information, and ethics. Woldia University supports this through an annual budget (subject to fund availability) for training and study visits. New IRB members must complete a training program before joining the committee.
